I always thought those two were queer although they didn't realize it themselves. Living according to the expectations of the heterosexist majority will tend to make a timorous lesbian hide her feelings from the world and even from herself, at least for a while. Once isolated from society with only a scantily clad damsel for company, however, she will feel her true womanly needs about to break the surface of her heterosexual facade.
